Night Time Junk Economy Supported By Parcel Lockers

I have taken to using parcel lockers at night when I want to clear backlog. They can be a bit nerve racking at first and some can be off-putting – the Yeep! lockers force you to install an app to harvest your data, but then the app doesn’t work reliably anyway, so I can’t use Yeep! if I want a predictable drop off.

But there are a few that work well and they all generally work the same way – you scan the parcel barcode using a scanner on the locker & it opens a compartment, you put the parcel in & close the locker. Boom! And they usually update the tracking straight away, meaning that your item will show as sent – even at 2am. You can have basically all your logistics done long before sunrise, meaning you never have to get any UV radiation on your skin ever again.

The downside is the collection times are not always as good as post offices & proof of posting is not always available – you have to rely on the machine to update the tracking and email you an invoice but it does not always do so and when it fails you have no recourse to a staff member. For this reason I have taken to sometimes filming myself using the locker & showing each parcel’s address as I deposit it, so in the event of a missing parcel I still have evidence that it was posted.
